Monday is Memorial Day, that exceptional day of each year. All Americans reserve to formally honor the service and sacrifice of generations of uniformed Americans now departed -- Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines and Coast Guardsmen who honored their sacred oaths "to support and defend" our Constitution and the liberty it enshrines.
In this era, however, our "progressive" academic institutions choose not to teach genuine history or civics. Consequently, many Americans have no sense of reverence or obligation for the liberty they enjoy. Indeed, many will "celebrate" Memorial Day as any other holiday, with barbecues, beer, and commercial sales at local malls. Simply put, they have sold out Memorial Day.
In 1776, an extraordinary group of men signed a document affirming our God-given right to "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." Their commitment to the principles outlined therein are summed up in its final sentence: "And for the support of this declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor."
Founding Patriot John Adams wrote: "I am well aware of the toil and blood and treasure that it will cost to maintain this Declaration, and support and defend these States."
And the cost has been incalculable.
Generations of Americans have since pledged their lives, fortunes and sacred honor in defense of the Essential Liberty codified by our Founders in the Declaration of Independence and our Constitution.
Our nation has, time and again, spent its treasure and spilt its sons' blood, not only for liberty at home, but also abroad.
However, Benjamin Franklin noted in 1777 that it should be so: "Our cause is the cause of all mankind, and that we are fighting for their liberty in defending our own."
Since the opening salvos of the American Revolution, nearly 1.2 million American Patriots have died in defense of liberty. Additionally, 1.4 million have been wounded in combat, and tens of millions more have served honorably, surviving without physical wounds. These numbers, of course, offer no reckoning of the inestimable value of their service or the sacrifices borne by their families, but we do know that the value of the liberty they have extended to their posterity -- to us -- is priceless.
"It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died," said Gen. George S. Patton. "Rather we should thank God that such men lived."
Etched into the base of the Iwo Jima Memorial in our nation's capital are the words of Adm. Chester Nimitz, his timeless tribute to the Marines who fought so valiantly there during World War II: "Uncommon valor was a common virtue." Such valor has attended every conflict involving American Patriots.
Not to be confused with men of such virtue, last week, Barack Hussein Obama addressed the graduating class at the United States Military Academy. His minions brokered Obama's appearance before the latest Corps (pronounced "core", not "corpse") of Cadets in the Long Gray Line, in an effort to burnish his thin veneer as "Commander in Chief" of our Armed Forces.
Obama used the occasion to dress up his strategy of appeasement.
In other years, men of somewhat greater stature have addressed the USMA, perhaps the most memorable being General Douglas MacArthur, who delivered his address on "Duty, Honor and Country," without the assistance of teleprompters, or even notes.
His words immortalize the spirit of all American Patriots who have served our nation in uniform:
Thomas Jefferson offered this advice to all generations of Patriots: "Honor, justice, and humanity, forbid us tamely to surrender that freedom which we received from our gallant ancestors, and which our innocent posterity have a right to receive from us. We cannot endure the infamy and guilt of resigning succeeding generations to that wretchedness which inevitably awaits them if we basely entail hereditary bondage on them."
Indeed.
We owe a great debt of gratitude to all those generations who have passed the torch of liberty to succeeding generations.
In Memoriam, we recall these words from Henry Wadsworth Longfellow:

Health Care Summit
During the health care summit, Obama defended the health care bill being over 2,400 pages long because, “it is a complex issue”.
I found the comment very interesting in light of the fact that you can hold up the entire document that governs the United States of America, in the palm of your hand.
Simple seems to work very well and is easy to understand.
What in the world is in 2,400 pages besides a government created nightmare?
Obama rejected Republican preferences for starting from scratch, discussing the issue much longer or taking a step-by-step solution, and instead suggested that Democrats will try to pass a sweeping overhaul without Republican support, and over the objection of the vast majority of the American people. But as many members of the democrat party have commented, we are not smart enough to understand the issue.
"We cannot have another yearlong debate about this," Obama said at the end of a 7½-hour debate. One needs to ask, why not? Was this not the 1st time Republicans were invited to participate?
Polls show Americans want their elected leaders to address the problems of high medical costs, eroding access to coverage and uneven quality. But the public overwhelmingly against Obamas sweeping legislation, with its $1 trillion, 10-year price tag and many complex provisions, including some that wouldn't take effect for another eight years — after Obama has packed up and left the White House.
But neither side gave ground throughout on Thursday, sticking mostly to familiar arguments and talking points. The president urged Republicans to "do a little soul searching" and said majority Democrats would decide quickly how to proceed on the issue that has eluded leaders for half a century. Whoa, there big fellow, the people have voted against this nightmare of yours, remember Massachusetts? Not even a liberal Democratic state wants anything to do with your plan.

Obama bends over for teacher unions
The Obama administration is attempting to overhaul of President Bush’s education law. This is the No Child Left Behind, and Obama is asking for broad changes in how schools are judged regarding, succeeding or failing. Obama calls for the elimination of the law’s 2014 deadline to bring every American child to academic proficiency.
What does Obama want to change? He will take out the provisions that teachers’ unions, associations of principals, school boards and other groups have found most objectionable. (Well, there is a good political move on his part)
Currently the education law requires the nation’s 98,000 public schools to make “adequate yearly progress” as measured by student test scores. Schools that miss their targets in reading and math must offer students the opportunity to transfer to other schools and free after-school tutoring. Schools that repeatedly miss targets face harsher sanctions, which can include staff dismissals and closings. All students are required to be proficient by 2014.
Educators have complained loudly in the eight years since the law was signed that it was branding tens of thousands of schools as failing.
The secretary of education, Arne Duncan, called the 2014 deadline as a “utopian goal,” and administration officials have since made clear that they want the deadline eliminated. In recent meetings with representatives of education groups, Department of Education officials have said they also want to eliminate the school ratings system built on making “adequate yearly progress” on student test scores.
So what is the message here for the American people? Obama has seen the writing on the wall. He has seen that educated and informed people will not abide by his liberal socialist agenda so…He will support a new law that overrides George Bushs education policy (of holding schools and teachers accountable) and instead insure that liberal democrats control American politics by dumbing down the our children. Obama knows that facts, stupid people vote for leaders like him !

They just don’t understand at all.
I had this e-mail below sent to me and I just had to include it here. It goes to show how people start throwing around words and numbers. They seem to have no meaning at all to politicians.

Professor Joseph Olson of Hamline University School of Law, St. Paul , Minnesota , points out some interesting facts concerning last November's Presidential election:
Number of States won by: Democrats: 19 Republicans: 29
Square miles of land won by: Democrats: 580,000 Republicans: 2,427,000
Population of counties won by: Democrats: 127 million Republicans: 143 million
Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by: Democrats: 13.2 Republicans: 2.1
Professor Olson adds: "In aggregate, the map of the territory Republicans won was mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens of the country. Democrat territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in low income tenements and living off various forms of government welfare..."
Olson believes the United States is now somewhere between the "complacency and apathy" phase of Professor Tyler's definition of democracy, with some forty percent of the nation's population already having reached the "governmental dependency" phase.
If Congress grants amnesty and citizenship to twenty million criminal invaders called illegals and they vote, then we can say goodbye to the USA in fewer than five years.

How Obama got elected

Many people have asked how in the world Obama got elected. My response was based on the candidates and their views. I am sure that their ages and their looks made a huge difference. No matter how you explain it, we are a society that is obsessed with Hollywood. We want our celebrities to be good looking and young. Our presidential elections are based on the same desire that our leader is young, vibrant and attractive. To me, this played as large a role into Obama getting elected as did his speaking ability.
I may have been wrong, it may come down to something even more simple.
A good friend that I have not heard from in many years sent me an e-mail explaining Obama’s election in a very simple way.
I hope you enjoy this exercise into a sad reality.

The most eye-opening civics lesson I ever had was while teaching third grade this year.The presidential election was heating up and some of the children showed an interest. I decided we would have an election for a class president .
We would choose our nominees. They would make a campaign speech and the class would vote. To simplify the process, candidates were nominated by other class members. We discussed what kinds of characteristics these students should have. We got many nominations and from those, Jamie and Olivia were picked to run for the top spot. The class had done a great job in their selections. Both candidates were good kids. I thought Jamie might have an advantage because he got lots of parental support.
I had never seen Olivia's mother.
The day arrived when they were to make their speeches. Jamie went first. He had specific ideas about how to make our class a better place. He ended by promising to do his very best. Everyone applauded and he sat down.
Now it was Olivia's turn to speak.
Her speech was concise.
She said, "If you will vote for me, I will give you ice cream." She sat down.
The class went wild. "Yes! Yes! We want ice cream."
She surely would say more. She did not have to. A discussion followed. How did she plan to pay for the ice cream? She wasn't sure. Would her parents buy it or would the class pay for it. She didn't know. The class really didn't care. All they were thinking about was ice cream.
Jamie was forgotten. Olivia won by a landslide.

Every time Barack Obama opened his mouth he offered ice cream and 52 percent of the people reacted like nine year olds. They want ice cream. The other 48 percent know they're going to have to feed this cash cow and clean up the mess.
Remember, the government cannot give anything to anyone ---
that they have not first taken away from someone else.
